The Race
The Lakeland 100 is one of the UK’s most iconic ultras, covering 105 miles and 22,500ft of elevation through some of the Lake District’s most rugged trails. In 2025, Kelly joined a record field of 800 starters, with just 490 making it to the finish line. The race began at 6pm in humid evening conditions, adding another layer of challenge to an already demanding course.
Result:
123rd overall (from 800 starters)
25th female (from 241)
10th in age category (18–40 SW)
Fuelling Strategy
Kelly built her race around BareFuel Orange Dream, aiming for 60–90g of carbs per hour:
BareFuel – 3–3.5 scoops in 1L water
Plain water alongside for hydration balance
By relying on BareFuel for her carb intake, Kelly was able to skip whole food stops entirely, saving valuable time and maintaining consistent energy.
“The Orange Dream BareFuel kept me full enough to hit the second 50 miles stronger than the first – I ran a negative split in a 105-mile race.” – Kelly
Performance Impact
Running a negative split over this distance is rare. For Kelly, it was the result of disciplined pacing, perfect fuelling, and the confidence to trust her plan.
