Highland Fuel Nutrition to Support Team GB at the Backyard Ultra World Championships
Share
We’re incredibly proud to announce that Highland Fuel Nutrition will be supporting Team GB at the 2026 Backyard Ultra World Team Championships.
15 of the UK’s best backyard ultra runners will line up in Sherwood Forest as part of a truly unique global event. At exactly the same time, national teams around the world will start their own backyard ultras, all competing to see which country can keep the most runners going for the longest.
And we’ll be there helping to fuel Team GB.
A Connection Through the Backyard Community
This opportunity actually came about through MOAR Events, who we’ve been working with around their own backyard ultras.
It was the team at MOAR who made the connection and linked us up with the UK Backyard Ultra team.
It’s a great example of why we love being involved directly with races and the wider ultra running community. One conversation leads to another, relationships grow, and suddenly a small Scottish nutrition company that hasn’t even been trading for a year is being given the opportunity to support Team GB on the world stage.
A massive thank you to MOAR Events for making the introduction and helping bring it all together.
What is a Backyard Ultra?
The format sounds simple.
Run a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour.
Finish the loop and whatever time remains is yours to eat, drink, change kit and recover. When the next hour begins, you go again.
And again.
And again.
There’s no set finish distance and no predetermined finish time. The race continues until the competition reaches its conclusion.
At World Championship level, that can mean running for days.
It makes fuelling, hydration and recovery absolutely critical. This isn't about getting through a marathon or even a conventional ultra with a known finish line. Athletes need to manage their energy intake hour after hour while fatigue, sleep deprivation and changing conditions all begin to take their toll.
Supporting Team GB
Highland Fuel Nutrition will be supplying fuel to the 15 athletes representing Team GB, giving the team access to our products throughout the event.
That will include BareFuel, our carbohydrate and electrolyte drink mix, alongside UltraCaps to provide an additional sodium option when required.
For backyard racing in particular, flexibility is important.
Some athletes may want liquid carbohydrate during a loop. Others may prefer to take on more of their nutrition back in camp. As the race progresses, what an athlete wants, and what they can comfortably tolerate, can change dramatically.
Our job isn't to tell 15 experienced ultra runners that there's only one way to fuel.
It's to just give them reliable options they can build into the strategies they've already tested.
A Pretty Big Moment for HFN
Highland Fuel Nutrition only started in November 2025.
We haven't even completed our first full year in business yet, and we're already being trusted to help fuel a British team competing on the world stage.
For a small independent Scottish endurance nutrition company, that's something we're extremely proud of.
HFN was created around endurance sport. Our products have been developed for the same sort of athletes we spend our weekends running alongside, from people taking on their first ultra to athletes pushing towards the very limits of the sport.
Backyard ultra is probably one of the purest examples of that.
There are no shortcuts. You have to keep eating, keep drinking, keep moving and keep getting yourself back onto that start line every single hour.
Good Luck, Team GB
We're massively excited to be part of this one and proud to have the HFN name alongside Team GB.
A big thank you again to MOAR Events for making the connection, and to everyone involved with Team GB for giving us the opportunity to play a small part in what promises to be an incredible event.
