From 25 Hours to 20:30 - Gary’s Chester 100 Breakthrough

From 25 Hours to 20:30 - Gary’s Chester 100 Breakthrough

From 25:19 to 20:30 at Chester 100.

That doesn’t happen by accident. 👏🔥

Huge well done to Gary, whose performances have gone to another level over the last year.

At Chester 50 back in February, Gary finished 19th overall in 8:09:32 using purely Highland Fuel. Then came M2L, another huge endurance effort fuelled entirely on Highland again over an even longer day out.

But the real breakthrough came at Chester 100.

After running 25hrs 19mins in 2024, the target was sub-24. Instead, Gary absolutely smashed it with a huge 20:30:27 finish time. 💥

The biggest changes?
Consistent strength training
Dialled race nutrition
Simpler fuelling that actually works

Highland Fuel formed the backbone of his race plan, taking in around 50–75g every 90 minutes, with just small amounts of real food later into the race. No fancy extras. No endless gels. Just steady, reliable fuel over 100 miles.

And the results speak for themselves:
UTMB Index: 492 → 663
ITTRA Index: 584 post-Chester 100

Gary said it best himself:
“I’m getting older, but my performances are improving.”

Next up: Scotland 100 as part of the GB Ultras 100 Grand Slam. 👀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
